Obaseki Alleges Oshiomhole Plot To Hand Edo Assembly To Loyalists.

The battle for the Edo state governorship took a new twist Thursday morning after the impeachment of the ex-deputy speaker, Hon Yekini Idiaye, as thugs said to be loyal to the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, laid siege at the state parliament.

Governor Goodwin Obaseki was said to have stormed the Anthony Enahoro Complex in company of his deputy, Philip Shaibu, after they got information that the impeached deputy speaker and the 14 members loyal to Oshiomhole had planned to take over the Assembly.

The governor assured his supporters that the government was in charge of the situation and that legislators should go about their business without fear, alleging that the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its former chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had concluded plans to use the federal police to take over the Assembly and inaugurate the 14 members.

While Obaseki left the Assembly complex, his deputy, Philip Shaibu, the speaker, Frank Okiye. Edo state People’s Democratic Party, PDP, chairman, Tony Aziegbemi and other PDP bigwigs were left behind with thousands of party supporters who blocked the popular Ring Road.

Stern-looking police men and soldiers were at the gate to maintain peace as two tipper loads of granite were deposited at the entrance of the Assembly complex to bar all access into the complex.
